John E. Eriksson, Ph.D., Prof. in Cell Biology and Director of Turku Centre for Biotechnology, is the leader of the research team behind the discovery. He is one of the Co-founders and board member of Anison Therapeutics. He has been one of the key persons involved in the establishment of Euro-BioImaging and has longstanding experience in a broad range of imaging technologies and infrastructures. He has made numerous key findings related to both cytoskeletal and survival signaling. He has a longstanding interest in tech transfer initiatives with several collaborative articles and patents regarding both nanoparticle-mediated drug delivery as well as bioactive compounds that could be used in cancer therapies and/or provoking the stress response. Upon his initiative, ÅAU got engaged in a pioneering program on commercialization and entrepreneurism with Kellogg School of Business (Chicago), which then led to the formation of the current tech transfer unit at ÅAU. He has led and /or participated in numerous Academy of Finland, TUTLI, and EU projects. In 2017, he initiated together with key partners from the Medical Faculty at University of Turku as well as Åbo Akademi University tech transfer unit an activity called the “Corporate Corner”, which is intended to be an interface concept between academia and corporate partners, He is among the top cited scientists in his field in Turku with more than 9000 citations and an H-index of 57.
John is the leader of the research team behind the discovery, Professor in Cell Biology and Director General of Euro-Bioimaging Hub Office, Turku. He has been one of the key persons involved in the establishment of Euro-BioImaging.
